Magnificent copper engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi, ater Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (Guercino). Publishing in 1646 years, Italy. The sample is taken from the work "Original Paintings and Drawings of Guercino in the Collection of His Majesty."
In the painting, a winding river takes center stage, flowing peacefully through the composition. The artist skillfully portrays the movement of water, using subtle brushstrokes to create ripples and reflections. The river is surrounded by lush greenery, with trees and foliage lining its banks, creating a tranquil and inviting atmosphere. The travelers and fishermen feature prominently in the painting, adding a human element to the natural scenery. Bartolozzi portrays them engaged in various activities along the river. Some can be seen conversing with each other, while others appear to be busy with their fishing nets and boats. Their presence brings life and energy to the scene, emphasizing the harmony between humans and nature. Bartolozzi's attention to detail is evident throughout the painting. He meticulously depicts the play of light and shadow on the water's surface, capturing the subtle variations in color and texture. The overall composition is balanced and harmonious, with the elements arranged in a pleasing and aesthetically pleasing manner.
Francesco Bartolozzi is an Italian draftsman, watercolor painter and engraver, the greatest master of etching, dotted style, in particular colored dotted line and pencil etching style. From 1764 he worked in
England, where he created a school of color reproduction engravings.
Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (1591 – 1666) better known as Guercino, was an Italian Baroque
painter and draftsman from Cento in the Emilia region, who was active in Rome and Bologna. The vigorous naturalism of his early manner contrasts with the classical equilibrium of his later works. His many drawings are noted for their luminosity and lively style.
