This is an original etching of Two Scenes from the mid-18th century. Manufacturer: engraver Jan de Visscher (registered building) after a painting by Phillips Wauwerman (registered building) Publisher: Danker Dankerts (registered building) Place of manufacture: engraver: Northern Netherlands Publisher: Amsterdam 1800. One shows knights enjoying time with peasants, and the other shows soldiers enjoying a break from battle.
Philips Wouwerman (1619–1668) was a Dutch painter of hunting, landscape and battle scenes. He was one of the most versatile and prolific artists of the Dutch Golden Age. Embedded in the artistic milieu and traditions of his home city of Haarlem, Wouwerman made an important and highly influential contribution to the canon of seventeenth-century Dutch painting. His paintings were in demand during his lifetime, and even more in demand in the 18th century. The reverse side is blank. This is an original print, not a modern reproduction.
