John Ravenstein was a prominent 19th-century cartographer and geographer known for his significant contributions to mapping and geographical studies. Born in Germany in 1834, Ravenstein moved to England where he established himself as a skilled mapmaker. He worked extensively with the Royal Geographical Society and authored numerous maps and atlases that provided detailed geographic information. Ravenstein's maps were noted for their accuracy and were widely used in both academic and practical contexts, contributing greatly to the understanding of global geography during his era.
